Practice 3

For exercise 3 I had the opportunity to practice with the sculpt tool to create a sea shell model. I attempted to model my favorite type of shell, the sand dollar, and I was able to get introduced to the basics of the sculpt tool and find areas which I hope to improve upon. I used an image as a sketch in many ways to match the size and shape of the original.

Project 2

For project 2, I went with the second prompt of selecting favorite films and then designing a new object for them that creates a new narrative. In Fusion 360, I created a model record player for Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and for this narrative it is a continuation of that film's themes of the association of art and memory. The record player would be a modern form of music for Marianne to associate her memory of Heloise with, and it is in all of her art. This is the first image shown, and I imagine the second two images are what Marianne would be painting in this first one. The second image is actually from a different film, Parasite, but has the record player, to show how even in stories that are so different from ones personal life, an artist often finds a way to put something personal in it, like the record player which is inserted in the frame. Final Project

For my final, I designed a 3D virtual space of one of the key locations from a feature length screenplay I was developing. I used a period building for reference (my story is a revisionist western) and I used a lot of different tools in fusion including the patch tool, extrude, and different appearances. The hardest part was the windows, the the part I feel the most proud of is the little design on the door frame because it adds a nice touch to the style I think. While getting all the little details was hard during the time span, and I didn't get quite as many done as I may have originally wished, I was mostly focused on evoking a specific mood/tone from the render. I used an emissive material in Fusion to create the candle light effect, and liked the contrasts of the orange light against the dark structure over the white snow. Project 3

Project 3 was a challenge since it took a lot of patience to learn the sculpting tool. Thankfully, the nature of the project being creating a vase based off of a natural object lended itself to some more experimentation and less 100% matching of the original flower. I enjoyed that aspect of the project, and think I could've improved by adding some more details and nuances to the color and design, but by the end of the project felt more comfortable with the sculpting and patching tools. I chose flowers from our willow tree in Boston that blooms once a year - it just started to bloom, so I did a photo shoot of it and decided to use it as an inspiration for the vase. I payed attention to the pointed edges that were con trashed by a softer folding in, as the flowers were not fully bloomed yet at the time I took the photo.
